INCLUDES

PDF

A step by step walk through of how I retouch a beauty portrait. While the guide focuses on one image, the techniques discussed in the can be applied to most skin types. You’ll get a 20 page pdf complete with before and after examples and Adobe Photoshop screenshots of my portrait photography retouching process. This guide assumes a basic knowledge of how to use Photoshop. This guide does not cover colour toning in lightroom and is most suitable for someone wanting to learn about dodging and burning.

Presets

Most of the popular presets on the market are very film based and a lot of them are meant for natural light, lifestyle photography.

When I made the switch to studio photography, and specifically beauty, I realized that a lot of the settings I was using in Lightroom were too heavy handed, too contrasty and they destroyed the detail I needed to retain for skin to look natural.

I developed these presets specifically with studio beauty photography in mind and this 4 pack of XMP files gives you variation in saturation, contrast and tone so you can take your beauty photography to the next level.

As with any preset, it’s crucial to adjust the white balance and exposure to achieve the best results and it’s also important to remember that these presets are not one click solutions, but they provide a base for further editing in Photoshop.

Kate Whyte Presets/Profiles require Adobe Lightroom Classic CC 7.5 (and newer) or Adobe Camera Raw 10.5 (and newer). A video demo of the presets in action on Canon and Nikon files is included.

Narrated Video

This is a step by step, 25 minute narrated screen recording of how I retouch a beauty portrait. From applying a preset and correcting the white balance in Lightroom to making my subjects’ eyes pop to polishing the final image in Photoshop. While the guide focuses on one image, the techniques discussed in the can be applied to most skin types. This guide assumes a basic knowledge of how to use Photoshop and Lightroom. This guide is most suitable for someone wanting to learn about dodging and burning.
